Deken van de slaap is Dutch for Blanket of the Sleep.

We see a white face with short curly black hair lying on a red pillow in bed. There is a blanket over his chest on which the title of the painting is written on.

Words, painted in black, circle around his face. Such as Friends, winter sport, rust (rest), thoughts concerning privacy, and spee (an unfinished word).

The person can’t get any sleep. All sorts of thoughts go through his mind. Next to him is a blue nightlight. It is switched on.

Previous thoughts have sunken into the pillow. And are not as visible anymore. Since they are in a layer below the red pillow.

Although the person is half awake. He is slightly smiling. Since he is alone and safe in his bed. Away from all the things he is thinking about.
