Restless love life
In the time that I painted this canvas, I was much concerned with the subject of love. This was mainly due to my own restless love life.
This painting is based on a canvas that I already painted in 1995, called De Roddelaars (The Gossipers). But in his painting love played a major role.
The memory of something that once was and is now over. The excruciating pain that this can bring, but also the loving memory of the good times together.
Passion
The colors black and red are two powerful colors with the traditional meaning preserved. Black (strong, all colors included) and red (the color of love, of passion).
All superfluous details have been left out. I did not consider it important that one could see who the persons are or of what gender they are. In this way, the possibility remains that the viewer can identify with it. Who has never enjoyed or suffered through LOVE?
