Bali Bali Bali No. 4
In 1998, while I was still at the Royal Art Academy. I made a trip to Bali in Indonesia. This was my first trip to Asia and outside of Europe. My family and I made this trip together and we were unprepared. My dad was depressed, and so was I. This painting is ripped at the bottom. I stitched it. And I am not hiding it.
What about expectations? Somehow I had expected paradise. But like life, things can turn out differently. The colors in the paintings Bali Bali Bali are missing. But maybe having the expectations was nevertheless a good feeling. I have forgotten if I made these 4 paintings beforehand or afterward. What do you think?
Bali Bali Bali no. 4 is a loose canvas and can be hung directly without using a hammer and nails. I include strips of Hammersmith Monstertape.
