Zodiac Paintings—12 small paintings Corry—Libra (No. 7)

Everybody is different
Initially, the artwork was not a carpet, it consisted of 12 small paintings where each painting showed one astrological sign. The names below are of people who are very close to me, but also of people who are a bit further away from me. The idea behind the work is that we are all human and yet different, but also that qualities of yourself can be found in someone else and vice versa. So we are all different but the same in many aspects.

Choice of colors
I tried to show this with the colors. They are divided into three categories: zodiac, name, and background. This symbolizes the diversity of people in terms of education, culture, beliefs, appearance, etc. The choice of colors is purely personal taste. I don’t like cloudy colors, but I like bright colors. The colors are also chosen according to the constellation. The lobster has the color of the expression (as red as a lobster, the lion is orange, just like the fur. The background of the Pisces-zodiac sign is blue like the water it swims in, the background of the bull is red like a rag in a tragic bullfight.

Come and feel
When the paintings were finished, I felt that the work was not quite finished yet. I wanted the artwork to be able to connect with the viewer. The artwork has to do with feeling and I think that you should therefore be able to touch the artwork so that it is less distant. And I could best depict that with a carpet. You can even walk over a rug. It’s soft and accessible.
