Until 1999, I painted intensively on self-prepared and stretched canvas. Aka Regular Stretched Canvas (Museum Wrap). That means that all the paintings in this series are 100% handmade. From the production of the canvases to the actual paintings.
This also means that the works are not even in size. Partly intentionally. Partly because I painted on the canvases that I had ready. This also means that the canvases are not 100% even.
Marriage Road No. 4 show Herman happily looking at Corry. And Corry’s body is facing Herman. Her eyes are looking either back or towards the future and she appears to be frowning. Their faces are painted in the contrasting colors yellow and red and green. Together these colors are screaming. Representing a circus kind of feeling, like a combination of maybe fun or crazy. The red road is painted like a pasty or flowing river. With Herman and Corry somehow adjusted to this road. Or like creatures emerging from this river.
