Empathetic Walking Panel

On 12 May 2018, I organized a Bridge-Performance + Drone recording at the Broken Bridge, Hangzhou (China).

The bridge-performance was captured with the use of a:
1. Selfie-stick— showing the Empathetic Walking Panel frontal and up-close.
2. Drone video camera— giving an overview from above of the area, “The Broken Bridge”, and the “Empathetic Walking Panel” walking arm in arm over the bridge.

During the bridge-performance—Empathetic Walking Panel—I asked 3 thought-provoking questions about the ex-pat community living in Hangzhou.

Book

The transcript of this conversation. Plus images captured with the drone and the selfie-stick. Are presented in a bilingual hard-cover book available via Amazon.

Social Awareness

I was bullied by one of the male artists in the group of artists I was working with for the group-exhibition Unstruct. And qua art, I was working with my Bridge-Performances. And I was dealing with living in China as an ex-pat. All these feelings got mixed up and this is how my idea for the bridge-performance called Empathetic Walking Panel came into existence.

I was bullied by one of the male artists in the group of artists I was working with for the exhibition Instruct. And qua art, I was working with my Bridge-Performances. And I was dealing with living in China as an ex-pat. All these feelings got mixed up and this is how my idea for the bridge-performance called Empathetic Walking Panel came into existence.

I was asking for certain language awareness. And this was the catalyst that jumpstarted the bullying. But I did not give up on taking part in the exhibition, simply because of the intimidation. Also, I did not give up on my idea about this topic. It empowered me to organize the bridge-performance Empathetic Walking Panel.

So I weaved it into one of the three questions I asked the Empathetic Walking Panel. And this way brought it back into the group exhibition. I did something that started the bullying. And this asking for a certain awareness I did not give up on. I weaved it into one of the three questions I asked the Empathetic Walking Panel.
